When I saw the title I immediately wondered if this was referring to Pandora's Star.
As a futuristic industrial scene I love it but it doesn't look like the image my mind created for the primes homeworld, although I find it fascinating to see how someone else has envisioned it.
When I read a book I become my own film director, as I read the words my mind visualises the scene. I truly envy your artistic talent to portray how you see the words, I lack the ability to realise the images in my minds eye.
Everyone loves dirty industrial grey stuff. I happen to love dirty industrial grey stuff that has floating, inexplicable, but obviously futuristic, glowing things. I imagine that they're robots, or highly automated, function-fulfilling, quasi-established, utility objects. Kinda like buoys.
It would be a ship heading to the new city if it looked different. To me, it looks like it comes from the city because it matches the city so perfectly. I actually think it is part of the city because of this. Ships and vehicles look like they're part of their own hyper exclusive aesthetically focused club, not part of the city they merely drive through.
